IRANIAN CONGRESS

Iran is one of the central countries of the Middle East with its deep historical heritage and deep-rooted state tradition, as well as its rich cultural texture. Due to these features and the fact that it has spread over a wide geography in the historical process, Iran presents a very complex social and political structure. Given its ancient state tradition and its impact on world politics, Iran has been the scene of great power struggles in the last two centuries but has recently been active as an important actor in regional politics. Iran, which expanded its regional sphere of influence after the US intervention in Iraq and the Arab Spring, has also become an important agenda in the international arena with its nuclear technology development policy.

Although many congresses have been held in almost every field of social sciences, the number of conferences dedicated to Iranian studies is very few. Iranian studies or presentations on Iran are mostly included as a chapter in Middle East congresses and cover only a limited area. In this sense, our conference, which aims to examine Iran as a whole with its history, language, religion, culture, economic, military and political structure, is essential to fill this gap and connect it to a permanent and stable calendar. At the same time, the only way to reach an objective point of view and information that can be controlled/provided is through the execution of academic tools with a high level of effort and determination. The Iranian Studies Conference will try to be one of these academic tools. In this sense, the Congress welcomes academicians, post-graduate students, independent researchers, and practitioners.

In this context, the first of the international conference series on Iran, “I. International Congress on Iranian Studies” will be organized online by the Journal of Iranian Studies (https://dergipark.org.tr/tr/pub/iranian) and Nous Academy (http://nousacademy.org/) on June 15-18, 2023.
