Abstract

CHALLENGES FACED BY IRANIAN STUDENTS LIVING IN BURSA: A NETNOGRAPHIC STUDY

Abstract

One of the most significant effects of globalization is that it leads people to compare the conditions of their own countries and local communities with others due to the opportunities and conveniences it provides. Additionally, better economic conditions and the possibility of utilizing intellectual and scientific abilities more effectively in the target country can lead people to migrate from their home countries. Currently, Turkey has attracted Iranian immigrants due to factors such as greater social freedoms, a larger economy compared to Iran, proximity and various travel options for passenger transportation, the presence of numerous cultural connections between the two countries, favorable climate, and historical and natural tourist attractions. In this context, the present study aims to investigate the situation, experiences, and issues of Iranian students residing in Bursa through online research (internet ethnography). For this purpose, Iranian students living in Bursa, who are members of the Bursa Students Telegram group, were examined. The results of data analysis and evaluation indicate that most of the problems are related to life in Turkey, with a smaller portion being related to Iran and the relationship between the two countries. The most significant problems related to life in Turkey include difficulties in finding housing and dormitories, issues with immigration and citizenship procedures, problems with opening bank accounts and currency transfers, challenges related to the Iranian consulate and embassy in Turkey, and the inability to acquire adequate education information and related problems.
